Port Canaveral terminals: the Orlando cruise port, explained
Exit 54A for the A terminals, 54B for the B terminals — get that right and the rest is easy. Disney has its own terminals, Royal Caribbean berths the biggest ships afloat here.

Port Canaveral is the port people mean when they search for a cruise from Orlando. There is no cruise port in Orlando itself — Canaveral sits about 45 miles east, on the Space Coast, an hour or so down the Beachline.
It is Florida’s second-busiest cruise port and, increasingly, the one where the newest hardware shows up first. Disney Cruise Line bases ships at its own terminals here; Royal Caribbean berths the largest ships afloat.
The terminal split — the one thing to get right
Port Canaveral’s terminals are divided into two groups, and they are reached by different exits from SR 528:
- Exit 54A → the A terminals: Cruise Terminals 5, 6, 8 and 10
- Exit 54B → the B terminals: Cruise Terminals 1 and 3
The two groups are a few minutes apart by road. Taking the wrong exit on embarkation morning is the classic Port Canaveral mistake — recoverable, but irritating when you are already an hour into a drive.
Terminal assignments rotate by ship and date, so check the terminal number on your cruise documents before you leave. Disney operates from its own dedicated terminal facilities; Royal Caribbean, Carnival, MSC, Norwegian and Celebrity are distributed across the rest.
Getting there
From MCO: roughly 45 miles, 45 to 75 minutes. Head north out of the airport, pick up SR 528 east (the Beachline Expressway) — a toll road — and stay on it almost the whole way. Options and costs are in the MCO to Port Canaveral guide: shared shuttles around $30 a head, rideshare $65–125, private transfers from about $145 a vehicle.
From the theme parks: similar drive, similar road.
From Melbourne (MLB): about 35 miles south, a smaller airport with far fewer flights but a shorter transfer. Occasionally worth checking.
Driving from elsewhere in Florida: I-95 to SR 528 east, then the exits above.
Parking
Official parking is about $20 a day plus tax, the same rate for cars and RVs, in lots adjacent to the terminals.
Because so many passengers drive in from Orlando, the Space Coast has an unusually developed alternative market: off-site lots from around $12.95 a day with shuttles, and a strong park-and-cruise hotel scene in Cocoa Beach and Cape Canaveral where a night’s stay bundles parking for the week. If you were flying in the day before anyway, that bundle often makes the hotel close to free.
Why people choose Port Canaveral
Disney. Three Disney ships base here, at Disney’s own terminals, and the cruise-plus-parks trip is the reason a large share of Port Canaveral passengers are here at all.
New ships. Royal Caribbean has used Canaveral to launch its biggest recent hardware, so the fleet skews newer than at any Florida port except Miami.
Short sailings. Three- and four-night Bahamas runs dominate the calendar, which is exactly what you would expect from a port an hour from the theme parks. They are also among the cheapest cruises leaving the state.
Kennedy Space Center is next door, and a genuinely good pre- or post-cruise day if you have one spare.
Embarkation day
- Know your terminal and your exit. 54A or 54B. Everything else is straightforward.
- Arrive in your assigned window. Turning up early does not board you early.
- Drop bags with the porters before parking, and tip them.
- All aboard is normally 60 to 90 minutes before sailing.
Fly in the day before
This matters more at Port Canaveral than anywhere else in Florida. Miami and Fort Lauderdale are close enough to their airports that a delayed flight is usually recoverable. A 45-mile drive is not. A two-hour delay at MCO can genuinely cost you the ship, and there is no fast way to close that gap.
Stay near the port rather than near MCO if you can — Cocoa Beach and Cape Canaveral hotels are minutes from the terminals, and many include parking.
The Port Canaveral schedule lists every departure we track from the port.
